talked with Dr. Rong about what should I do in this year.
She proposed that I do some follow up work this semester, and select a top to do some survey. Then I can choose a direction and start to prepare for that from next semester.
I agreed with her. And since I found myself lacking in the theory background I proposed that I’ll try to start the survey from both ways of application and theories this semester. I hope I could do that and I believe that’s helpful.
The other idea of mine is to combine academy study with industry experience. But Rong doesn’t quite agree with me on this, at least in my first years in the PHD program. She doesn’t intern at next summer a good idea. Well, maybe she’s right. But that’s one year after. We can decide that later. I’ll focus on learning to do research in this semester, and the following one as well.

In my opinion, only very relevant internship in your research field could be beneficial for your research, and whether it is easy or not to find a good internship largely depends on your research topic. But if you aim to go to industry after graduation, then any kind of work experience more or less help. However, publications also help a lot
