study google!
Google draws more and more of my attention, for one simple reason: it puts things online.
I think online storage and service of personal data is the trend in the future. In the past we focus on PC, and online storage isn’t as practical as local storage. But now the focus shifts to pervasive computing. User end devices still play an important role: we need more powerful PCs, notebooks, PDAs… But they are no longer the center of one’s digital assistant. With network connection and computing service available to a pervasive extent, the most important thing is how to organize all those network service, computing power, and personal data.
Google is a successful example, at least for now. It strategy is a centralized server providing network service and personal data. It’s easy to manage and easy to use.
In the 1980s, hackers who wanted to break free from the control of centralized computing power created PC, and a legendary industry as well. Today with the power of internet, centralized server take the leading flag back. What’s in it? Many want to know, including me:)
History often evolves in a spiral way. But its repetition is never simple. Overall centralization will not come back. Now we need a strategy to leverage between centralization and distribution. A lot of considerations are needed. We need to utilize the computing power in a most flexible and efficient way. We need to make one’s digital extension easy to manage but also free to use. Security and privacy are also extremely important.
With all those questions, I really need to study google, from its ideas to implementations.
Also its aquisition strategy is also of great importance…
And the last but not least, from the study i can equip myself with its services. I really like them:)
