graduation thesis done.
Very possibly i’ll join some of my classmates for a short travel, which starts on July, 1th, and takes us 2 days.
before this trip i’ll secure the storage: a moveable disk and two luggage holds. and have the graduation thesis thing done.
after the trip i’ll deal with the transaction for my archives.
after that i’ll check all my belongings, sell or send out some of them, pack the rest and send them home.
after that i’ll make sure all my luggage can be put into the two luggage holds.
then i’ll book the railway tickets.
then i need to find a way to store my belongings after graduation.
then i’ll extract my teeth.
then go shopping.
money order transaction.
physical examination.
then prepare for courses, cover papers, write essays…
then graduate!
got up very early to shot graduation photoes.
bought some books today, but not enough.
checked plan. so many things left undone:

ok, let’s deal with this.
went out to buy luggage holds.

need to install gcc… maybe i need a redhat version of linux…
had an horrible exprience when printing my thesis.
i forgot to set the printer to print on both sides of the paper. so i wasted my print papers, and went back for more, and had to wait in queues to get the job done.
i really needed to learn to handle details. my major problem is that i have no fun when handling details, or executing routines. but i’ve had enough failures to tell me that being over creative without enough caution and patience is a disaster.
Details are most effetively handled when you put them into a routine and follow it. Routines are always needed to secure the stability of the running of your life.
(Write those sentences here to remind myself.)
Speaking of routine, today in the thesis defense i again broke away from it. firstly i throw my written script when i had the chance to read it. then i focus my presentation on 2 of my new ideas. Little work has been done in their implementation, or, demonstration of implementation. For me, i always prefer the creativity, for the teachers, i don’t know. But since i will pass anyway, it’s good to take this chance to try out something wild.
OK, maybe this something means nothing. Anyway, the defense ends now. let’s move on:)
came out with a ppt with lines for each page.
the count of the words in those lines amount to 3750… how can i finish them in 10 min tommorrow?
played games…
get up at 16:30…
played basketball.

The lastest news says Bill is leaving in 2008. (The End of the Gates Era)
Well, the first idea in my mind is, maybe Bill finally learnt from Bonaparte’s failure, after he has learnt from Bonaparte’s success for such a long time.
I guess Bonaparte has been Gate’s life model, just like Alexander, Caesar and Hannibal have been the life model for Bonaparte, and like the childhood fascination for every man. Bill learnt so much from Bonaparte, his ambition, his tactics, even his temper. (Bill Gates vs. Napoleon)
But why do he choose to leave? It’s definitely deviating from Bonaparte, and what Gates haters think(they hate him for good reasons: see “Social aspects of the GNU Project”) Is it because of his wife? Or the charity?
They must have substantial influence on this decision. But I couldn’t help thinking, every reader of the story of Bonaparte, will wish he quit conquering after he reaches the summit, and lead a peaceful life with Josephine. If he kept his heart from being taken away by politics, time may treat him with a good heart.
It’s equally wise to judge that your time has come and that your time is gone.
So i think leaving is the second coolest thing Gates has done. What’s the coolest? Entering the software industry(or, creating it?) of course.

The comercial demand for convergence of circuit based network and IP based network is high. And a lot of problems need to be solved:

The Internet control plane always adapts to the demands placed on it—and there’s no reason to think it is incapable of evolving to support the requirements of converged services. Several emerging technologies address the need for a more reliable, scalable, and resilient IP control plane.
In short, the convergence of voice and data services onto a single network is already well underway. In the current climate, service providers must evolve their networks to remain competitive. Before voice and data services can migrate to a single IP/MPLS core, the IP control plane must evolve to support the scalability, reliability, and stability required by business services. Fortunately, technologies exist today that enable these advances. Routing technologies such as stateful protocol protection, optimized route convergence, and high-performance scalable routing processors can provide the IP control plane with the resiliency that’s needed.

I’ll go back to Xiangfan on 15th, July. Before that I need to have everything in my dorm transported to Xiangfan.
i’ll stay in Xiangfan for a few days and head for Guangdong.

got to complete two tasks everyday: cover papers and loose weight!
Asked about consigning and railway ticket.
confirmed with my mother that I’ll be back to Xiangfan on 15th, July.
asked about archive transaction. I’ll do that after 11th, July.

covered some papers reviews.
spent the afternoon singing with Lei Du in KTV…
good luck to her.
i’ve made a plan a few days ago. Let’s list the overdue tasks up to now:
contact list
digital incarnation
hitech management paper
need to finish them before 6.15.
The proxy and network connection problems took too much of my time…
I hate restricted connectivity!
Google draws more and more of my attention, for one simple reason: it puts things online.
I think online storage and service of personal data is the trend in the future. In the past we focus on PC, and online storage isn’t as practical as local storage. But now the focus shifts to pervasive computing. User end devices still play an important role: we need more powerful PCs, notebooks, PDAs… But they are no longer the center of one’s digital assistant. With network connection and computing service available to a pervasive extent, the most important thing is how to organize all those network service, computing power, and personal data.
Google is a successful example, at least for now. It strategy is a centralized server providing network service and personal data. It’s easy to manage and easy to use.
In the 1980s, hackers who wanted to break free from the control of centralized computing power created PC, and a legendary industry as well. Today with the power of internet, centralized server take the leading flag back. What’s in it? Many want to know, including me:)
History often evolves in a spiral way. But its repetition is never simple. Overall centralization will not come back. Now we need a strategy to leverage between centralization and distribution. A lot of considerations are needed. We need to utilize the computing power in a most flexible and efficient way. We need to make one’s digital extension easy to manage but also free to use. Security and privacy are also extremely important.
With all those questions, I really need to study google, from its ideas to implementations.
Also its aquisition strategy is also of great importance…
And the last but not least, from the study i can equip myself with its services. I really like them:)

I’ve always been planning to master linux. But the plan is always postponed. Now that I’m going to be a student of CS, i’d better learn to use it before i go to the U.S. And I also hope to lay a foundation for the study of Operating System, for I can apply the knowledge in this real platform.
Now I found that I need to learn a lot of things in ubuntu in order to survive here:)
system adm
installation and management of software
startup config
mounting windows fs

My visa day.
got up at 6:30
get in the light rail. changed for subway. arrived at the embassy at 8:30.
so lucky that i met windsor999 outside the embassy.
long time waiting in the queues…
finally, the Asian VO called my name:
“Good morning, sir.”
“which university are you going to attend?”
“the University of Houston”
“what are you going to study?”
“computer science”
“in what specific area?”
“wireless networks and computer networks”
“简历”
(handed to him)
“你通过了。拿这个去办理邮寄。”
“Thank you, sir.”
That’s all.
I really wonder why he said Chinese to me. Is it because that my answers are all short phrases? I kept answering this way because i think it’s better for both me and him to have the conversation as simple and clear as possible. In fact the strategy of mine is very simple: simple, clear, and total confidence.
There was a young lady who was in the same queue with me. A pretty woman, and had been pretty cool to us. When she saw an applicant before her was carrying a baby and had difficulty finding her documents, she stepped up and took over the baby. In a suitable way she demonstrated to us (and the VO) the image of a good mother. very kind of her, and very smart of her. she passed very quickly. i don’t think the experience of my own is of much value to you guys, but i hope this woman can give you some inspirations.
final preparation for the vsia
revised my resume and study plan.
watched “the apprentice” and “growing pains”.

let’s go get it, but go to bed first.
