Got mail from advisor. Maybe need to learn linux more this semester.

15:07

Played a basketball game, got the last shot. Tired.

Striked by inertia for hours. What a shame.

Need some cold water to refresh myself.

Yes. And I think the world of open source is important in the U.S, for piracy is strictly restricted there.

Gmail Invitations Available

If you need one, just tell me.

Just make sure one thing:

I know you!

Something more about my plans

You may have noticed that I write my plans in a code-like manner. This is a geeky habit of mineemoticon. You may find it annoying. But I recommend you copy and save it as *.java (or #.cpp)file, and open it with IDE like Visual Studio.Net. Then you can fully exploit the advantage of outline view feature of such software.

Something more about my daily log

1. I wrote the daily log of one day in one post. I may update it for several times during the day. So very possibly, you will see a complete daily log at the end of the day.

2. Generally I’m gonna view the comments at the end of the day, and respond to them in my daily log.

My contact has been renewed

Now that the environment of life of me is going to be changed, and so are the ones of many of my friends, I feel it necessary to update my contact, including emails and ims:

E-mail:

1983.Song.Wei@gmail.com(recommended)

weis02@mails.tsinghua.edu.cn

wei_song_1983@hotmail.com

im:

QQ:38764380

msn:wei_song_1983@hotmail.com

google talk:1983.Song.Wei

They are recorded in the http://songwei.blogsome.com/who-am-i page.

Now I really like gmail and google talk.

6 laps. Legs need some rest. Exercise.

Been to the registration center(and registrated for this semester), student office of the department, police station in Tsinghua, career center, Bank of China.

Now have an idea about the passport and registered permanent residence things. Will go to the passport office in Haidian district and confirm what I’ve known, and publish it out here to share you guys in Tsinghua.

Still don’t know too much about the notarizations. Help…

A dude asked me to go to the pub, which reminded me that I’ve never been to such places. Maybe a memorialization is good, to mark the days of youth in China…

0:05

Finally, the voice from Houston! Celebrate one!

Thank you very much, Yi Liu.

The adventure in the pubs… Miserable. Let’s forget about that.

0:12

Wait a minute. I’ve got your mail, Yi Liu.

Thanks very much for the advices.

I think I’ll live on campus, at least in the first semester, and make further decisions later.

Need I learn cooking???

OK, maybe I can start with the American style. Can’t cook no Chinese food, anyway.

I’ll tell my advisor about this blog now.

4:39

sent some emails to UH.

Again so late.

Why am I subconsciously ajusting the time difference?

Slept for hours…

Focused on the digital incarnation idea. Or, say, obsessed by it? In this a few days.

Beening exploring in internet, like, say, blindly?

Just now struck by emptiness. That has been the start of my inactivities many times before…

But NO MORE, ‘cause me’m gonna to be FREE.

When you guys see me like this, do slam right across my face.emoticon

Let’s start planning… A bath and supper first.

20:23

Been talking with akai about the old smth.

Sure it intertwists too much feeling and memory.

Despite of what I’ve said, in fact, I feel you, akai, though I’m completely an outsider back then.

Good luck in Japan, akai.

23:52

OK. Digital incarnation done.

Guess I’ll use gmail and google talk more in the future. They are really good.

Time not enough. The new contact will be published tomorrow.

February 15, 2006

This blog has been fixed.

You can comment directly. No registration and moderation required, until the day this blog is attacked by comment spam…

Added two explanative pages. One for myself, one for the blog.

Changed the theme, modification applied.

Glad to find out wpress is such an elegant open source blogging system. And blogsome is a nice place for free bloggers. Although I really think they should update wpress to 2.0, and enlarge the file upload space.

But I’m OK with the current situation. Maybe pics and musics distract people’s mind from the essential points. Also I want to keep this place light-weighted. So there won’t be java script, too. But I do want to have server of my own to host the blog. Cause the password scheme isn’t very convenient. Better assign user identification to certain categories. That would be nice.

Am I again sinking into meaningless details? Forget it.

I’ll try to make things here clear and simple.

Got up at 8:50 Charged the electricity.

Cost me 100 yuan.

Run 10 laps.

Exercises.

Still not feel well.

The bccb bank is so mean.

Yesterday I submitted 30 yuan for a Yangze Wang for his network account, but forgot to press one button. Today I found that the 30 yuan is neither in his network account nor my bank account. Sigh…

Been trying to finalize the first stage construction of my digital incarnation. Hopefully I can get this blog done and introduce it to my advisor.

Got to finish it today. Havn’t been dealing with html for long…

Hungry and Tired. Got to sleep. Will it help to loose weight if I miss my lunch?

0:13

a talk with another… have given him some advices on choosing advisors. But do take my advices with reservation, dude.

Maybe I’ll make a good consultant… There is one thing I find out: when you are trying to give advices to someone, you are improving yourself, too.

Been hacking with wordexpress. Explanation of modifications of this blog will soon be announced.

Didn’t know wordexpress is open source at first. Just feel it elegant out of its simpleness. Has that become the mark of open source?

Maybe I really should dive deeper in the world of open source. Matt is so cool emoticon

Found a good desktop blogging tool : w.bloggar. It’s free. Trying to set it right.

At last I gave up. Maybe because of the coding system of the Chinese version of Windows XP, when I send this:"""""""""""""""""""""

I get this:\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Can’t fix it. The xml source sent seems to be alright. Any one knows what to do?

Too late. Anyway, this site is OK now. Sleep.

Lover’s Day

… Well, freedom will always be my faithful lover.

13:55 Can’t believe I got up 8:30 in the morning. Perhaps because of the sunny weather, perhaps because of the return of my beloved dude Yangze Wang. (Do not think that I am gay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Ran 10 laps on the playground. Did some exercise. Really determined to carry out the loosing weight plan now. Got into library. When look through piles of books I come up with some thought. Left the library with seven books, though I wonder I much I could really read before the due time. Anyway, I don’t really enjoy reading, except for novels. But I do want to know. So glad to find that I can access the outer internet from the computers in the media room. I like the environment there. Looking out of the window you see the peace in the sky. But I forgot the passwords of my online storing space and blog. Tried more than 10 times. Still can’t remember. Sigh. Sigh.. Sigh… Got to get back. Posted my first “thought”. Found a problem. The categories view are only effective the first time I push the go button. Seems it needs a while to be effective again. This blog… So interesting. Tired. Got to sleep.

10:36, Feb 15 The electricity charge had run out yesterday. Couldn’t blog. Surfed on the bbs. There had been one thing really surprising: A contact on my im list, who I thought was my high school mate Dong Wang in Peking U, turned out to be a 30 year old male who has lived and worked in the US for 10 years. Had a nice talk. Thanks for you advices and tips, Donald. Have been coping with the blog system, to finalize the construction. Hoped I can settle things once and for all, but the electricity suddenly shut down… How I wish I’ve got a lap top…

What should I do in the last months in China?

Yes, I’ve got no courses to attend to this semister except for taekwondo and a few selective courses… But, I do NOT have that leisure time as you guys presume:

I need to prepare all the board and enroll stuff. I need to work in a graduation project. I need to prepare for graduate study following the instructions of my teachers. Got to say good bye to all my friends in China. Got to get together with all my families. …

Is there anything should be done? Yes, I think so. I need to know more about China. Very possible I’ll come back some day. At least I’ll always keep a specail connection with her. Need to know more about the culture, business, even politics… Maybe career market and career life in China is the most realistic topic. Although I don’t think I will really completely leave the lab and school world. But I feel it not enough… to know the whole picture. Well, I may know something of academia, a little of career, but I don’t know business. But I believe that’s the key to a successful career life, and even the way beyond. But where to start? The origin, the impetus, the joint point… I feel Hi-tech venture capital really interesting. What do you guys think?

What I think is… Well, again feel so occupied:)

Maybe we should really learn from the art of the great “go” master Qingyuan Wu. You can be a great caculator, but there are always more steps and possibilities than you can caculate. However, in this galling situation lies the great art of combining intuition and caculation, choosing and forgoing. None of us are gods, but we are free. That’s what the gods can’t aspire to. How I wish I could know that art some day.

Going to Houston

I’m going to Houston in U.S. for my PH.D. study. I’ll enroll in the Computer Science Department in University of Houston. (www.cs.uh.edu) I will be expected to be available in the department 8/14/06 (one week before classes begin). And I have to get my passport, visa and various certifications. Let’s do it.

The first daily log

11:23 (Beijing time) at noon. Headache. I went to bed 4:00 this morning, and I’ve got up an hour ago. All becasue of this blog thing. I’m still too easy to sink into meanless exploration of details of tech. Got to be more concentrated and organized. Hungry and tired. Got to eat…

sleep…

14:43 A special talk to someone. …

16:12 Let’s make the visa plan.

16:29 Tired. Have to sleep for a while. Faint. Can’t stay over night. Sigh…

19:30 Got up. Again, time to eat… Can’t let this go on…

21:06 Have run 6 laps. Played some basketabll. Got to do sports to refresh my body. Finished the meal Going to bath.

22:30 Faint. The bathhouse is closed! Bad luck… I’m so angry that I did a shower using tap water shower in the dorm Nearly got myself killed, but it feels so cool! Did some cleaning and sundries. OK, refreshed. Now the visa plan… Got to fight a bloody way out of the details.

3:39 Again so late… visa plan and draft of procedures abroad posted. Welcome discussion and advices. Sent the first email to my senior in Houston.

Viewed the comments. So happy there are so many!

To rainsinger and Da: Thanks very much! I’ll keep blogging.

To yoshiki: This is just average writing of mine. I never wanted to write a GRE issue here. Maybe I’ve never known the difference between average writing and GRE issue. Didn’t get a high score anyway…

Seems that there are some problems with commenting and publishing here. Your comments are all sent more than once. Indeed it seems that there is something wrong with the commenting system here. I’ve tried 2 comments and got a page of warnings each time. But it’s ok. I received all the comments. You don’t need to send multiple times. It’s just that comments need to be approve before they are published. Indeed different from the space, and indeed convenient. And the plans may be not so clear with their formatting. I have to enter html source here, and it’s difficult to do the indenting. I tried to enter in word, and paste the compiled html, but only to have chaos displayed. I’ll try to solve these problems in time.

4:07 Got to sleep. The time was even 7 minutes later than yesterday! Faint. Never want to ajust the time difference in such a way.

Hello world!

Welcome to songwei at Blogsome. This is my first post. This is Song Wei here.

What will I write on this blog? Basically I’m gonna write down what I’ve done during the day, and I’ll try to keep posting once a day. Decisions and plans will also be posted. And of course I would like to share my thoughts here, if I come up with any. Most of the posts would be in English, for I want this blog to be international. So my posts here will fall into 4 categories:

Daily log Plans and decisions Thoughts and ideas Explanations

I’ll add more categories when I feel that I need to.

Who will be reading this blog? This blog is open to all over the world. But I think the ones who are really interested with this blog will be limited to my friends, classmates, teachers and advisors.

Why do I keep such a blog? First I publicly log my daily life to keep myself being too lazy. For a time in college I’ve been very inactive. But now that I’m orientated, I’d like to recover, and go beyond. One of the reasons of my inactivity is that I hate being pushed. I knew that if you don’t want to be pushed, you’d better push yourself. But after years of school life pushing myself sounds no longer an appealing idea to me (and to most of us as well, I think.). It took quite a lot for me to learn that if you don’t want to push yourself, you’d better free yourself. So now I’m gonna expose my laziness here, and let you guys scold me, mock me, blame me. I will do this out of my free will, because I think to face the public judgments voluntarily will be a good start of a free way. How can one free himself in a game? The only way is to take the lead. And that’s what I’m gonna do here.

Secondly, decision and plans announced here may make it more convenient for my friends to make accommodation or to cooperate. And it could also be evaluated by the advisors and teachers, if they’d like to, to give me some advices and instructions in advance. Sometimes I may need a place to explain something, and here will be my bulletin.

Thirdly, this blog will serve as a more convenient substitute of ordinary journals and notebooks for me.

And the last but not the least, I’ll publish some thoughts here and wait for your feed backs. It would be my pleasure to discuss with you.

Policies 1. All kinds of comments are welcomed. Yes, I say all kinds and I really mean it. There is a sample comment below by myself to demonstrate this point. 2. Although this is a log of my daily life, please rest assured that all sensitive things will never be shown here. I will always take my responsibility to protect the privacy between me and others.
